Can the words "depart" and "leave" be the synonyms in the following sentence:

"The ship departs (leaves) Varna at 9 a.m." ?

    Yes. "Departs" is more formal, and is what you might read in a timetable. "Leave" is how you would tell your friends.

    You don't need "the" before "synonyms". There may well be others; "the" with a plural noun usually means all of them.
