depositary vs depository

Are these two words exactly the same?
Or either of these two is wrong.
I can see them in many situations, some spelt as "depositary" some "depository".

    I have only come across "depository" but the WR dictionary says "depositary" is a variant spelling. I'm sure the one with "...ory" is much more common.

    They're interchangeable and both are common, though -ory is more common. It is familiar in the name of the Texas School Book Depository, from which President Kennedy was shot. Both spellings seem to be common in official use for American Deposit{o|a}ry Receipts, some kind of financial instrument, which is the other place I usually see the word.
