"FLASH deprives a website of speed"

(FLASH is a web tool for creating animation. It slows websites because it makes them heavy)

Considering the explanation in the website, please suggest whether my usage of the highlighted words is correct or not.

Does it slow down the website, or does it slow down the rate at which the website downloads?
"Deprives" is too formal; I would suggest "robs" instead. Websites aren't "heavy". They're either big or small.

For me, the concern is not about "of" because the whole sentence doesn't tell us anything specific enough. But if you're not concerned about that and only want to know about "of," then it's fine.
