Ce jour-là, j'invitais des clients au Grand Véfour. Millésimes, mains dans le dos et mignardises. J'avais sorti le grand jeu. Depuis le temps que je devais m'y coller ... Ce fut un déjouner sans intérêt.

On this day I invited my customers to the Grand Véfour hotel restaurant, vintage wine, service with panache, general frippery. I had pulled out all the stops. ??????????????? There was no real point to this breakfast.

    My try: I had to do it sooner or later.
    "Depuis le temps que je devais m'y coller" conveys the idea of a chore which I had to face sooner or later whether I like it or not.

    It's been a long time that this person should do that.
    It's for him a kind of corvee.

    PS: It's not a breakfast :)
    Petit déjeuner = breakfast
    Déjeuner = Lunch
    Dîner = Dinner
