On this day I invited my customers to the Grand Véfour hotel restaurant, vintage wine, service with panache, general frippery. I had pulled out all the stops. ??????????????? There was no real point to this breakfast.

Merci d'avance pour les idées.

    My try: I had to do it sooner or later.
    "Depuis le temps que je devais m'y coller" conveys the idea of a chore which I had to face sooner or later whether I like it or not.

    <<From the time I had to do (this lunch)...>> :)
    It's been a long time that this person should do that.
    It's for him a kind of corvee.

    PS: It's not a breakfast :)
    Petit déjeuner = breakfast
    Déjeuner = Lunch
    Dîner = Dinner
