depuis maintenant plus d'un siècle

In an article regarding the history of the English language, there is a sentence that starts with:

"Depuis maintenant plus d'un siècle, le français subit l'influence de l'anglais..."

Can anyone tell me what this translates to, I don't really understand with the 'depuis' and 'maintenant' together?

Thank you :)
