    The Mediterranean diet includes (wheat products)/(products made from wheat) such as bread and pasta.

    A "by-product" (sottoprodotto) is something you make with what is left-over after you make the main product.
    This is a good thread to raise the issue regarding "grano" and "cereali".

    Often the phrase "grain based" is associated with the Mediterranean diet.
    I wonder is "grano" in this context clearly "wheat" or might it be "grain" - a synonym for "cereali"?
    In this case, "wheat products" sounds more appropriate to me because Italian pasta and bread are made from wheat, while grain includes other cereals such as kamut or barley (if I'm not mistaken)..
