    Hi,
Could anyone please explain the following?

L’hiver, des cordées faits de nœuds à coulisse en crin de cheval piégeaient moineaux et alouettes.

    I have translated it as:
In winter, we used horse-hair cords with sliding knots to catch sparrows and larks.

I'm not sure about "horse-hair cords with sliding knots". Could anyone help?

    Thank you!

Here we're talking about traps made of horse-hair cords, which you call snares I think.
