If dia is masculine (as my New World dictionary says), does "dia hermoso" translate "beautiful day"?

It does, as does 'día bello' (note the accent on the í). So you could say "Era un día hermoso" ("It was a beautiful day") or "¡Que día tan bello!" ("What a beautiful day!").
