Die Geschichte bewahren

I was wondering if "to preserve the history" is "die Geschichte bewahren" in German.

Especially in the following sentence, which refers to "a place" (ein Ort):

"Seine Geschichte ist bewahrt worden." (Its history has been preserved)

Is that correct?

    (Its history has been preserved)
.. or do you refer also to documents concerning the place or archaeological finds (e.g. in museums)? I think that also in this case Seine Geschichte ist bewahrt worden would work.
If the meaning is ''its history is preserved/secured'', then you could perhaps say Seine Geschichte ist bewahrt/gesichert (without 'worden'). German natives please confirm.
