Hello,

I am reading this book THE CATCHER IN THE RYE. And there is a quote in the book which is originally said by Wilhelm Stekel.

"The mark of the immature man is that he wants to die nobly for a cause, while the mark of the mature man is that he wants to live humbly for one"

Could you please explain this quote and what do DIE NOBLY and LIVE HUMBLY means?

Thanks in advance!

If you "die nobly for a cause", you die in some courageous and noble way as you fight for the cause. If you "live humbly for a cause", that cause guides the way you choose to live your life. You live humbly, probably aware that the cause is larger or more important than you are.
