When do I use die as opposed to sie? In a film ("What a Man") the script reads as follows:

"Ich hab Okke zum Geburtstag so 'ne Paintballpistole gekauft. Die ist vollautomatisch. Guck mal, die sehen ganz schön fies aus die Teile."

Why does he (Matthias Schweighöfer) use die instead of sie?

That's quite common in spoken language. "die" is a demonstrative pronoun in this case.
