diegetic

Hi

I'm doing a project on french cinema and particularly the use of music.

I can't find a translation of "diegetic" anywhere (i.e. sounds that emanate from the film - voices, music on a CD player... as opposed to non-diegetic sounds like a sound track or extra sound effects).

Bande sonore/bruitage/dialogue don't quite convey the meaning I'm looking for.

Does anyone know how I can translate this bizarre word?

Same in French. I used to study cinema, and we had : le temps diégétique, et non diégétique...

I think the same word is appropriate there.
