Hi,

What is the difference between speckled and spotted?

It is a spotted /speckled dog.

I see a spotted/speckled stone.

There is a spotted /speckled egg.

I have a spotted /speckled chicken.

Thank you very much.

The words are similar but I think "spots" generally mean markings with a fairly uniform pattern, while speckles are more irregular.

Others might have a different opinion.

Speckled is typically applied to eggs with spotted shells and to chickens with markings that are not so much spotty as blotchy (often with patches of colour), whereas spotted can describe anything from dalmatians and leopards to dress fabrics.
