I'd like to know if the word different can serve as a switch from one thought to another or mean "what I said is irrelevant", "forget it", similar to whatever.

Sample dialogue, made up by me:

"What would flying to the Moon feel like?"
"If I only knew... Different, though."

Can different in this context mean "disregard what I said previously, it was irrelevant"? Or is it clearly a modifier related to the previous question (with the rest implied), yielding "flying to the Moon would feel novel and unusual"? Can it be replaced with whatever or any synonymous expression, and in what context?

Thank you.
