Bonsoir. Je dois traduire la phrase "...without diffidence from the great reliance they placed..." Peut-on dire "... sans défiance..." ou "...sans timidité..." ? Merci.

Il m'est difficile de donner un texte plus complet en raison de la confidentialité du travail... " They received their wages without diffidence, from the great reliance they placed on their employers..." Est-ce que ça ira ?

This use of diffidence seems unusual to me, but I think that you're right: sans défiance is what is meant: They received their wages with diffidence, i.e. without misgivings, unsuspectingly.

The sentence is quite clumsy, and sounds like a translation from another language or one composed by a non-native.
