dispositivos políticos

Hi,

I'm finding it hard to translate dispositivo político into English. Context: It's the beginning of an essay on playgrounds and their role in society from a more technical perspective. What I understand is that they're trying to say that playgrounds are not banal places, but can also be used politically.

Original sentence: Los parques de juegos son, como las heterotopías, dispositivos políticos.
My attempt: Similarly to heterotopias, playgrounds are political mechanisms.

Thanks in avdance,

Gonzalo

    My attempt:

Playgrounds, like heterotopias, are political devices.

Your "mechanisms" also works, but I prefer the other word here.

(I had never heard the word heterotopias before.)

"Devices" occurred to me also, before reading gengo's post.
"Mechanisms" seems to draw too much attention to a playground's "inner workings" (if there is such a thing:confused:).

Actually, I'm wondering if "tools" might be better still. If they are using the playgrounds as a means to achieve x or y in their campaign/term/objective, then they are "political tools".
