I'm confused about the phrase "do me a favor" what should the response supposed to be? I remember my English teacher told me it should be"of course not",it means yes. Is this true?

  • What is the context? "Do me a favour" can be a request for some sort of assistance etc., but it can also be used as an interjection, or an emphatic refutation. If you can give us more context we can help you with an appropriate response.

One time my English was taking things quite have all asked me for a favor I mean do me a favor. Then I said yes what is it that but she told me that we should say "of course not" or "sure", but can we say of course not at that time?

The polite way to ask is "can you do me a favour?" or "can I ask a favour?", but that aside, in that context then appropriate responses could be "sure" or "of course" or "yes, what is it?" or "if I can" or "it depends on the favour" - these are all valid and normal (and there are many other options).

But I wouldn't use "of course not" - that sounds very rude. I wonder if perhaps you're confusing "of course" (yes, I can do a favour) with "of course not" (no, I cannot do a favour for you)?

He might also be confusing "Do me a favor" with "Would you mind doing me a favor?", for which "Of course not" is a good response, as it means "Of course I wouldn't mind."
