"two ways" is an abbreviated version of "in two ways".
    ........in............two ways
    preposition + noun phrase

    {preposition + noun phrase} = adverbial or adjectival modifier:
He is in the garden -> in the garden - adjectival modifier
He runs in the garden -> in the garden -> adverbial modifier

There are only a few examples in English in which the preposition can be omitted. You have to learn them.
