do they study where they play

Senior Member
Hello everyone,

From a documentary movie about Marcus Dupree (the script can be read at 30 for 30 - The Best That Never Was Aired on ESPN - Ark TV Transcript - Search what is being mentioned across national TV) we know that after he finished high school, several universities wanted him to join their football team and he first went to the University of Oklahoma. But did he actually study there as a usual student or did he just play for the university's team?

So my question is: do all these college/university sportsmen like Marcus actually study at the colleges/universities for whose teams they play?

Thank you.

In the U.S., you can't play for a college or university unless you're a student there taking a certain number of credits and getting grades above a certain level.
