    "get on well", the phrase tells the state of your present situation,which means it can not be used in the continuous tense.

    I prefer the second option, dewylotus: it tells us what's happening now ("this term").

    If you were asking a general question, then the first option would work: "Does he get on well with his friends?"

    I agree with Loob.

    The first would only work for me if by 'this term' you meant 'in the spring term' or 'in the winter term'.

    The simple present makes the question general.
