Does the first definition of an acronym take capitals?

That's Capital

Hi all,

If, for example, I am talking about an
energy management information system (EMIS), and am introducing the acronym EMIS, do I need to use capitals for Energy Management Information System?
The term Information Systems (IS) also crops up, and I have often seen this given capitals, but is it correct?

Many thanks

No, there is no need for the capitalization of the full term to match that of the initials. It is normal to write about an energy management information system (EMIS); I would only use capitals on the words if it was the proper name of, perhaps, some particular company's system, or other formal programme like the EU Emission Trading Scheme (ETS).
