Dr. Chen’s achievements in sports medicine have been recognized/acknowledged by his peers both at home and abroad.

Hi. I write this sentence. Are “recognized” and “acknowledged” interchangeable here?

    "Recognized" is slightly more positive than "acknowledged." Sometimes "acknowledged" means "grudgingly acknowledged," whereas "recognized" should generally be positive approbation without any qualifications.

    I agree with doji that they're interchangeable, but their are some subtle differences, to my ear.
