Hello everyone.
I started at once in this harmless seaman’s rig and inquired at all the yards down the river. I drew blank at fifteen, but at the sixteenth--Jacobson’s--I learned that the Aurora had been handed over to them two days ago.......

Source: Sherlock Holmes: The Sign of Four.

is it "draw a blank" or "draw blank" ?
and, there's an another doubt, too.
can I say at the first fifteen?
thanks.

It is without a doubt the expression we now use 'draw a blank' for, but I can't tell you whether this is typo or the original text. You could say 'the first fifteen".
