Could I replace the underlined part with came out first, got number one, and got first place(or prize)?

You could, but personally I think drew top honors is fine.

For the "got number one" you should change it to "was number one."

You could and everyone would still clearly understand it, but to me that makes it sound a lot like this was some kind of contest.

Yes, they are. However, if you were talking about a race of some sort you would use "place." In this context I believe they are interchangable.
