drift on with oneself

Hello,

What does "to drift on with oneself" mean? To go one's way? To gad about?

'After Aldo went missing, the boy didn’t show for no more shoots. I figured he’d drifted on with himself. Might have sold on his father’s gear. Can’t hurt to ask.’

This seems to be an unusual way to say that the boy moved on by himself and no longer had anything to do with the other people who gathered for the shoots.
