Is the expression "drifting out of the tune" idiomatic? If not, how to make it sound idiomatic?

She sang the song, but inadvertently drifting out of the tune and the class burst into laughter.She was too embarrassed to stay calm.

    She sang out of tune and the class burst into laughter. She felt embarrassed, flushing.

    Anything out of idiomatic tune here?;)
