dubious and doubtful

Could you please tell me the difference between the two adjectives in these sentences: "I was rather dubious about the whole idea". I came across the same sentence including "doubtful". "The wine is of doubtful quality." - Can we use "dubious"?
"I am very dubious about his skill to do the job." - I wouldn't use doubtful here, but I don't know why. It doesn't sound right to me.

The first two sentences are provided by OALD and the last one is provided by Macmillan Dictionary.
