Sounds like some sort of lyrics...alfry just corrected the spelling and rightly rendered it. Please notice we normally wouldn't say "quello che mi hai detto è andato via", I guess that's slightly poetical

my only doubt was
... quello che mi hai detto è andato via
... quello che mi hai dato è andato via

maybe the second seems to have more sense.

But we cannot be sure

It is a line from an Andrea Bocelli song entitled "Un Nuovo Giorno". I was making an attempt to translate the song via the web but alchimia kept hanging me up. "Alchemy" is not a word I have heard outside of my high school world history class, literally 20 + years ago. It certainly isn't a word I use daily.

I don't agree, the first should be the sentence because lie correspond to bugia. Probably alchimia could be like magic so "lo che mi hai detto è andato via" because it was magic or lie.

my mother language is spanish and have problem writing both english and italian but at the same time I'am able to understand both. Scusatemi se sbaglio molto.

lparault, maybe you'd be interested in having a look at the English lyrics

_uggy: the pronoun "quello" (that) is directly linked to "andato via" (gone away), of course it can be linked to the first sentence as well (bugia & alchimia).

Alchimia is more evocative to me if compared to magia (magic), besides having reminiscences of a medieval past, it's more related to chemistry than to magic. We can talk about the chemistry of feelings and it's the result of a combination of elements rather than the effect of some spell/charm.

Nevertheless, alchemy is an inexplicable or mysterious transmuting.

Reading the lyrics, both in Italian and English, it's a clear hymn to life.

SilviaP: I agree with you regarding that alchimia was the begginings of chemistry, but in that time, medieval time, It was considered something related to wizards, therefore if something (Quello) disappears could be because is magic or because it's not true.

You have all been so helpful. I agree, after reading the English lyrics that the song is a hymn to life, however, I still prefer to hear the lyrics in Italian. To quote my 14 year old son, "Wow, Mom, Italian is beautiful."
