"I was employed to educate young children the basics of English."

or

"I was employed to educate young children about the basics of English."

    It's not that clear-cut
    "I was employed to educate young children about the basics of English."
    "I was employed to educate young children on the basics of English."
    "I was employed to educate young children in the basics of English."
    are all possible. But what you probably mean is
    "I was employed to teach young children the basics of English."
