Dear colleagues,
My source text concerns school inspections in Mexico (presumably to verify that appropriate hygienic, safety and pedagogical conditions exist in schools).
Here is the passage:
"Desahogada la visita, se suscribirá el acta correspondiente por quienes hayan intervenido y por dos testigos. En su caso, se hará constar en dicha acta la negativa del visitado de suscribirla sin que esa negativa afecte su validez. Un ejemplar del acta se pondrá a disposición del visitado."
So far, I have:
"Once the inspection has been performed, the appropriate record shall be signed by those who performed the inspection and by two witnesses. When appropriate, _______ shall be recorded [or noted] in said record, without that _____ affecting the validity of ____. A copy of the record shall be provided to the __[inspected party? inspected school?]__."
I want to translate
"se hará constar en dicha acta la negativa del visitado de suscribirla sin que esa negativa afecte su validez."
as:
"the refusal of the inspected party to sign the record shall be recorded in said record without that refusal affecting its validity."
However, if "el acta" is masculine, then "la negativa del visitado de suscribirla" can't refer to signing "el acta," can it? Is there is an orthographical error in my source text? (It is the national law on public education for the nation of Mexico; I should hope it would not have such an error.)
Can anyone please help me work through this? I would be so grateful for any suggestions, perspectives or assistance.
I am also uncertain if "the record" is the best translation of "el acta", here.
