Please could some one explain the mean of this prhase

"No one objected to the quiet elision of the fifteen soviet republics of 1945 with the Russian Federation of today"

What means the elision of smth with smth/sb?

That means noone objected to the fact that only the Russian Federation was mentioned and not the whole USSR
