Employment in terms of usage

I'm trying to translate the phrase

"the use of the frank tone..."

However I want to try and use the noun employment rather than use. Is that possible in french?

"L'usage/l'emploi du ton franche..."

If I used "l'emploi" does the sentence make sense?

Thanks :)

I think "l'emploi" would work here, better than "usage" actually.

However, "ton franche" doesn't work, it would be "ton franc" but that doesn't mean much. Are we talking about being frank as in very direct ? In that case I would say "L'emploi d'un ton direct", or even "La franchise de ton" which would transmit the same idea.
