Hello!

Is it possible that des ménages emprunteurs de crédit immobilier

refers to the idea of household mortgage lenders? I know that ménage means household/domestic and that crédit immobilier is the idea of mortgages but im a little stuck.

Thanks

l'origine de la crise est la perte de solvabilité pour une partie des ménages emprunteurs de crédit immobilier.

Its talking about the start of the credit crunch at that it was X which got the ball rolling.

The end of the French sentence is slightly odd, but it does mean indeed: households with an investment property loan (in their name). You might want to turn this somewhat differently in English ;)

    It's simply: "households with mortgages".
Not necessarily. Crédits immobiliers are restricted to people who want to buy a new property, while mortgage is just a loan against property. Some people for example take a second mortgage on their home to pay for their kid's college. You can't do that with a crédit immobilier.
