Hello, I would simply like to figure out why is the past participle of be used in this sentence.
I think there has been some sort of mistake
I know that that sentence is correct, however why do not we use has had?

Because there IS a mistake so there has been a mistake. We don't say there have a mistake :)

There has been a mistake is about a past event that affects a current situation

There was a mistake -- the situation described is in the past and is finished.
