Hello everyone,
I'm not sure if my following sentence is correct :
I would be lying I said that this grade had not disappointed me.
Should I use the past perfect or the preterit after "this grade" ?

    Quoi qu'il en soit, je mettrais a priori plutôt un preterit pour le verbe de la proposition subordonnée :

    I would be lying if I said this grade didn't disappoint me.

    Mais il nous manque le contexte complet pour trancher.

    I agree that this is a more natural way of expressing it in AE.
    In AE, I would not expect to hear that a grade "disappointed" someone but that someone was disappointed...
    Perhaps the most natural way of expressing the French sentence in AE would be:
    I'd be lying if I said I was happy with this grade.
