enemies and foes

Hi, everybody.

I'd like to know which word is more common in everyday conversation and writing, "enemies" or "foes"? Do you use "foes" mainly in the expression "friends and foes"? Is "foes" really outdated and rarely used nowadays, esp in everyday conversation? Thanks.

"Enemies" is the more common word. "Foes" is still used occasionally, but I think it has more of a poetic feel to it.

It is not heard nearly so often as enemies.
