Hi,
I'm studing English and I will try to write this message in English, so if some word or sentence is not correct, I would like that someone corrects it.

My question is refered to a translation. How do you say in English "esa persona es del tipo de las que..."?, whatever.

    Depende del contexto, pero a lo mejor sería:

    That is the sort of person who ...

    Now a couple of corrections:

    Qué quieres decir con esta "whatever"?

    Con whatever quiero decir que.... "esa persona es del tipo de las que...lo que sea". Por ejemplo, "esa persona es del tipo de las que harian cualquier cosa por ascender en su trabajo", o "esa persona es del tipo de las que se sacrificarian por por un amigo", o lo que sea.

    No se si me explico, ni si ese whatever esta puesto en un mal contexto.

    That´s [mejor He's or She's] the kind of person who would do anything to get a promotion

    esa persona es del tipo de las que se sacrificarian por por un amigo
    That's the kind of person who would sacrifice anything for a friend.

    The second one doesn't sound quite right. You could say 'It would be great if someone corrects it' or 'I would like it if someone corrects it'. I'm sorry I can't tell you why it sounds wrong! I never studied any English grammar at school!

    It's grammatically correct to say "I would like that someone corrects it" or, at least, it's acceptable these days - ever since the English subjunctive all but disappeared. Back in the 'epoca del subjuntivo' one might have said "I would like that someone correct it" but that sounds even worse. I think crom was probably attempting a pretty good translation directly from the Spanish, and I guess he or she was probably thinking "Me gustaría que alguien lo corrija".

    I was looking at an English grammar book today and found a story about a teacher who was continually trying to stop one of the children from saying "don't" when he should be saying "doesn't". He thought about it for a while, then said, "But miss, it just don't sound right!". Whether we know the rules of grammar or not, we soon get to know what sounds wrong...
