Hello!

Yesterday my English instructor gave us an example sentence as below, which in my view is somewhat problematic:

It is not easy to find part-time jobs, especially the economy is recessing.

First, does it really make sense to say that the economy is "recessing"? All I can found on internet is "the economy is in recession".

The "especially......" part seems incorrect, too. Shouldn't it be "especially when the economy is......" ?

What do you think?

I think like you think. Obviously, your instructor is not a native speaker.
the sentence should be = .....especially when (or.....since.....or....... because) the economy is in recession.:tick:

You're right, reno33, he is not.
He is said to have graduated from a top university and have spent years abroad, so he often looks down other non-native English instructors, and seems to consider himself "superior". I don't really like him for that reason, and it's good to know he is wrong.
