MONADA

I have just got back from Spain and one of the gifts i bought some one was a cushion/pillow with this phrase (written as above), next to the phrase is a cartoon monkey swinging/hanging of a tree branch, please can someone translate this.
Many Thanks
Martin

    Hi,

It means "I love you, gorgeous". But it plays with the noun "monada", which derives from "mono", which is a monkey.

    I agree with sayah.
Another thing it plays with is the fact that the monkey is swinging from the tree. In Spanish slang "estar colgado" (to be hanging) can also mean to be hooked/enamored by someone. (Estoy colgado por ti = I am in love with you)

    Thank you both!

Having not studied Spanish at all apart from the last 5 days whilst i've been on holiday i thought it might be i like hanging like a monkey or i love monkeys.

the fact it refers to a monkey as well (Monada) could that be describing the person?

for example " I love my Little Monkey"

great so .." i love you Cutie/gorgeous" is what it says

and the word for love can also be used for hanging or to be hung up on someone, which is also referenced by the use of the word Monada meaning cutie or gorgeous which has its routes in the word Mono for monkey.. makes perfect sense now thanks everyone!

Estar colgado means something like pending from a thread. To me is something more meaningful than just saying "I love you gorgeous". Its more something like "I go nuts for you". The "estar colgado" expression is somewhat slang and its based on its contextualization. However, as I said, to me that expression is somewhat stronger than just and I love you..
