It may probably just be a coincidence but I am wondering if the Japanese words uwasa (rumour, gossip) and mayakashi (deception) have any connection with Sanskrit.

In Sanskrit uvāca means "said". It is often used in introduction verses of the Vedic stories as follows: sūta uvāca – narrator said.

And māyā in Sanskrit means illusion, deception.
