Examples of multiple changes and multiple syllables (e.g., prezzemolo < petroselinum)

I find it fascinating that four syllables are retained and so many changes are involved from petroselinum to prezzemolo: petro->preto-, -selinum>-senilo>-semolo, pre(to)se->prezze-. Could we expand the list of examples of extraordinarily multiple syllables retained and changes involved?
