"Dutch scholars Morna Isaac and Detlef van Vuuren calculate that global power use for air-con will multi-ple fortyfold during this century. It is likely to outstrip that used for heating around 2065 and by 2100 exceed it by two-thirds."

Do I understand right: It [global power use for air-con] is likely to outstrip that used for heating around 2065 and by 2100 exceed it by 66 per cent ."

And, does the "air-con" mean only cooling here?

There is an error in the original; it should read "multiply" and not "multiple."

As a speaker of American English I find "air-con" (which is short for "air conditioning", and refers only to cooling) to be an unnatural abbreviation, although it might be used in some variant of English with which I am not familiar.
