I wonder if somebody could help me figure out the difference between expenditure and expense. I have these examples, the latest I've come across:
* " The expense is great, but our beggars must needs go hungry for the greater glory of God." ( a quote by archbishop Walter Grey, when the York Cathedral was being built )
* " Blow the expense." ( my former English teacher, after his third caipirinha )
* " The budget envisages tax rises to compensate for the escalation of public expenditure." ( any newspaper writing about Brazil could be quoted on this one )
* " This year's budget provides for a total expenditure of £60 million on pre-school education." ( I've made this up)
I'd appreciate any help.
