This is one of those "liberal arts" catch all titles.

It probably deals with all mass media channels, from print (books, magazines, and newspapers) to television, to movies, and possibly has been extended to include the internet.

It probably deals with a high level comparision of the different types of media, their histories, and some very general information about the types of jobs that exist in each.

EDIT: Here is an example course description (grade 8-12).

Media = All forms of interaction with the mass public, broadcasting etc

    Exploring = Investigating, Searching, Learning...

It could be a course that explores all forms of media like..
    Radio
    Television
    Journalism (Newspapers / Magazines etc)
Advertisements (On Radio / TV, Newspapers etc)
    Film / Movies
    The Internet

    Which then leads to discussing..

    Propoganda
    Politics
    Good role models
    Sensorship
Who allows what is broadcast to the public? etc..

It will probably be a course studying all modern forms of the Media and it's history, and how it affects the public and the world in general.

But as NycPhotography said, see if you can get a syllabus with course details which should say what you would be learning..
