... exposed to a lot of grammar and vocabulary, but she doesn't know how to use it or them?

Hi, all,

I typed this sentence:

Maria has been exposed to a lot of grammar and vocabulary, but she doesn't know how to use it correctly.

Then I wondered if I should write "use them" referring to grammar and vocabulary (plural). I decided to go with "it" because if "a lot of grammar and vocabulary" were a subject, I would use a singular verb.

What say ye?

I agree with you, DB: I would treat "grammar and vocabulary" in your sentence as a single entity.
