    Hello everyone,

Is are an expression synonymous of "eat something different" in the context below? Could it be "vary the menu"?

    John: Let's go out tonight.
Mary: Yes, let's. Let's order barbecue just to eat something different.
John: Fine. I'm dying to eat something different.

    Thank you in advance!

Yes that would be a good way of revising your conversation:

Mary: Yes, let's. Let's order barbecue just to vary the menu.
John: Fine. I'm dying to eat something different.

You realise, of course, that asking "Is are an expression synonymous of" is outside the scope of the forum, so members can comment on your suggestion, but it would not be appropriate for them to offer a list of alternatives.

I would say "for a change".

We always eat Italian. Let's try something else for a change.
