Hello, The WR Eng-Fr dictionary only gives positive uses for the adjective exquisite, but it can be used in a negative sense, too--or more accurately, in a neutral sense, serving just as an intensifier. Example: This does not mean that his pain was "magnificent". It simply means he was in extreme pain. The usage is a literary one, but I'm not aware that it would be translated with exquis in French.
