I didn't understand meaning of "extended to me" in this sentence. Thanks in advance

Let me say how glad I am for the invitation you have extended to me. I really feel privileged to speak at the plenary session. I am grateful to you all.

There are several ways to say the same thing:

"extend an invitation to X" = "give an invitation to X" = "offer an invitation to X" = "invite X"
