    Bonjour et bienvenue :)

    Peux-tu nous dire sur quel(s) mot(s) tu butes ?

Une phrase complète et son contexte sont toujours bienvenus ; ils augmentent la pertinence des réponses.

PS: are you bilingue ? ;)

    More context would be useful
If it means "unsuccessful asylum seeker " , i would try :
    demandeurs d'asile infructueux /malchanceux

    Thanks for your quick replies.
Here is the sentence: 'From new arrivals to failed asylum seekers, thousands each year find themselves cut off from welfare benefits...'

I am not sure about the correct translation of 'failed asylum seekers'.

    déboutés ? (legal term)

A 'failed person' doesn't sound very nice when they only failed in seeking something.
    Is that expression derogatory?

Beyond The Red Sea, could you please tell us what is your native language? This will spare you unnecessary albeit well-meant explanations ;)

Sorry about that. I am new here and have not had time to properly complete my profile. My native language is French. I live in the UK.

Failing asylum is the expression used here in the UK to explain that a person has been unsuccessful in their asylum application.
I cannot change the english document. I am just translating it into French.
