So I am confused. I see that to say that something hurts in French, one says «Ça fait mal » but I have also seen someone say that it is ok to say « Ça fait du mal ». Which example is correct...or can either one be used?
I am reading bleus sont les étés by Christian Signol.
In a passage describing a character's qualities he says: sans faire le mal pour le mal.
It is just in a list, so there is no more context. What is this quality? I think it means without doing any harm (to anything) but puzzle over the second 'mal' in the phrase. How would you translate this phrase?
